Hiking in Tyrol
Tour description
Kappl – Heiligenkreuz Chapel – Ruhestein Chapel – Seßlad Alp – Niederelbe Hut
Natural environment
In the lower part of Paznaun you will find the various districts of Kappl. What makes Kappl and the Paznaun Alps so special are the 90 hamlets – little ethnic villages – surrounded by a majestic chain of mountains, which are up to 3,000 metres high, like the Verwall, Samnaun and Silvretta group.
From the Gemeinde Street in Kappl to Ulmich there is a peaceful trail through the forest leading to Dias. On this path you can visit the Heiligenkreuz Chapel and the Ruhestein Chapel in a beautiful forest glade. Walk alongside the Seßlad Creek and enjoy cheese and milk tastings at the Seßlad Alp. You will finally reach the Niederelbe Hut in Seßlad Valley, which, with an altitude of 2,300 metres, belongs to the Verwall mountain range west of Landeck and south of the line Allgäu / Lechtal / Arlberg / Verwall. The Niederelbe Hut is located on a crest surrounded by two mountain lakes in the Seßlad Valley and is particularly suitable for longer stays. A waterfall and the Seß Lake at the Niederelbe Hut complete the stunning mountain panorama.
Hiking enthusiasts will find various hiking trails in Kappl starting from the Niederelbe Hut, alongside the Gseß Ridge, which leads you to the Kappler-Kopf (Kappl’s mountain) at 2,404m in just 20 minutes. This mountain provides you with stunning views over the surrounding Paznaun alpine world. The Farlar Valley delights with its crystal clear Riepas Lake and the unique flora in the summer.
Alternative Ascent:
Ascend with the Kappl Dias cable car to the upper terminal. Alongside the Kieler high level route, you will reach the Niederelbe Hut after a 2 hour hike. (Please pay attention to operating hours and prices – save money with the Silvretta Card)
